Our Team

Dr. Gregory Knapp
Surgical Oncologist
Dr. Gregory Knapp is a Surgical Oncologist and Assistant Professor of Surgery at Dalhousie University. He obtained his MD from McMaster University and MSc in International Health Policy from the London School of Economics. He completed his residency in General Surgery at Dalhousie University and fellowship training in Global Oncology and Surgery Oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and the University of Calgary.
His clinical practice is focused on Breast Cancer and advanced GI malignancies. He is the Director of the Global Surgery Office at Dalhousie University and a member of the African Research Group for Oncology (ARGO). He is co-chair of the Breast Cancer Site Team within Cancer Care Nova Scotia and co-Director of the Breast Health Research Unit at the IWK Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Dr. Ashley Drohan
Surgical Oncologist
Dr. Ashley Drohan is Surgical Oncologist, Assistant Professor and Health Services Researcher at Dalhousie University. Dr. Drohan completed medical school, General Surgery residency and a MSc in Community Health and Epidemiology all at Dalhousie University before attending the University of Toronto for a fellowship in Surgical Oncology.

Her clinical practice focuses on taking care of patients with breast cancer, sarcoma and advanced gastrointestinal cancers. She is the incoming Program Director of the Clinician Investigator Program at Dalhousie and is Co-Director of the Breast Health Research Unit at the IWK Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Andrea Mayo
Research Manager
Andrea attended the University of New Brunswick (UNB) where she received both her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and a Master’s of Exercise and Sport Science under the supervision of Dr. Danielle Bouchard. Andrea completed her PhD program in the Department of Health at Dalhousie University under the supervision of Dr. Olga Theou.

Rachel Hemsworth
Research Assistant
Rachel, born and raised in Halifax, NS, graduated from Acadia University in 2019 with a degree in Psychology with Neuroscience. Rachel has been working with Nova Scotia Health since 2020, and prior to joining the Breast Health team, was a Cardiology Research Coordinator at the QEII Health Sciences Centre.

Hanna Stewart
Research Assistant
Coming from Saskatchewan, Hanna completed a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Statistics at Dalhousie University. She then hopped the pond and combined both her interests in a Master of Science in Epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) under the combined supervision of Dr. Patrick Bidulka (LSHTM) and Dr. Sanja Stanojevic (Dalhousie).
