The Impact of Body Mass Index in Shaping Quality of Life and Satisfaction with Oncologic Breast Surgery Treatment as Measured by the BREAST-Q Tool.

Oncologic breast surgery, such as breast conserving surgery and mastectomy, are the mainstay treatments for those diagnosed with primary non-metastatic breast cancer. Undergoing oncologic breast surgery is invasive and can affect patients in many ways; however, the literature shows there is a need for understanding a patient’s quality of life (QoL) and satisfaction with care post-surgery. Commonly reported facets of QoL in breast cancer patients include feelings towards their body image, increased anxiety and depression and worsened functional wellbeing, Satisfaction in care often captures the patient’s experience with the medical team, including their surgeon, medical team, and office staff. These studies support the need for measuring post-operative QoL and satisfaction of care; however, there is evidence that the experience of the patient may differ based on their anthropometrics.  Therefore, the objective of this study is to better understand the quality of life among patients with obesity and breast cancer who underwent oncologic breast surgery in NS between 2000-2025.
